Poppies in sympathy

October 24, 2012

Today’s card is a sympathy card. I actually made two versions – only slightly different, but I needed to post one quickly and didn’t get chance to photograph it first.

When making cards for such a sad occasion I prefer to make them in pairs and keep one in my card box for the next time I need one – it just seems a little less traumatic that way.

I didn’t really want the card to be an obvious sympathy card and so for this version I decided to keep the sentiments to the inside and just have images on the card front.

The card base is an A6 portrait of Crumb Cake. A portion of the Pleasant Poppies background stamp (W126480 or C129499) was stamped in Versamark ink onto a separate piece of Crumb Cake card and embossed with Black EP. It was die cut with the Apothecary Accents framelits (127003) and the flowers coloured in with Real Red and Old olive markers. A frame was paper pierced in the centre of the card front using the Essentials Paper-Piercing Pack (126187), Stampin’ Pierce Mat (126199) and Paper-Piercing Tool (126189). The stamped image was then popped up on dimensionals in the centre of the frame.

On the inside a single poppy head was stamped in the corner and the sentiment from the Love & Sympathy set (W122795 or C122797) stamped in the centre, both using Basic Black ink.

The card I’ve already posted was for my friend at work who lost his Mum at the weekend. On that card I used the Sending Sympathy sentiment from Petite Pairs layered on Word Window and Modern Label shapes on the outside of the card and the longer sentiment from Love & Sympathy on the inside.

Back tomorrow with something lighter.

Sara xx
