Metallic Watercolor Wonder

When I think of water colouring I tend to think of beautiful pastels, however Stampin’ Up!’s watercolor wonder suite in the new Spring Summer catalogue features a lot of metallics (a hot trend at the moment). I decided to focus on these metal elements for this birthday card.

The card base is an A6 portrait of Smoky Slate, matted with Watercolor Wonder DSP (132994) that had been edged with Silver Fancy Foil Designer Vellum (133364). A combination of Apothecary Accents (127003) and Ovals Collection (129381) framelits were used to die cut the frame from Silver Foil Sheet (132178). After dusting some vellum cardstock with an Embossing Buddy (103083) the poppy from Happy Watercolor (Wood 133188 or Clear 133191) and the sentiment from Petite Pairs (Wood 128706 or Clear 122497) were both stamped in Versamark ink (102283) and heat embossed with Silver EP (109131). This was adhered behind the frame and popped up on the card front on dimensionals.

Finally, the poppy was “water coloured” by tapping Silver Metallic ink (132142) onto a clear block (any non-porous surface will work), then picking it up and painting it on with an Aqua Painter (103954). This ink grabs the vellum much better than our water based inks would do but take care to wash it off the brush and block before it dries or you may find it more difficult to clean away.
