Hand coloured watercolour paper provides a great original background for stamping on, having the advantage that no two pieces will ever be quite the same, due to the interplay of ink, water and paper. Here we used the edge of ink pads to ink the Clear Blocks but if you’re worried about muddying the colours of your ink pads, you could scribble direct to the Clear Blocks with markers instead and get a similar effect.
To prepare the watercolour background, a piece Watercolor Paper was lightly dampened using an Aqua Painter and some water. Clear Block E was inked with the edges of the ink pads in Tranquil Tide, Wisteria Wonder and Berry Burst. This was spritzed lightly with water using a Stampin’ Spritzer then turned over and placed ink down on the Watercolor Paper. A heavy weight was placed on top of the block for 5 minutes to allow the water and inks to absorb into the paper. The block was lifted away and any puddles of ink blotted away with some kitchen roll before leaving the paper to dry overnight. As there is some waiting time involved with this technique it’s worth preparing a few pieces at the same time.
The card base is an A6 portrait of Tranquil Tide, matted with a card front layer of Berry Burst which had first been run through the Garden Trellis embossing folder. After dusting the prepared watercolour background with an Embossing Buddy, a set of leaves from the Wild About Flowers set was stamped in Versamark and heat embossed with White EP. Flowerheads from the same set were added in the same way and then a sentiment from the Thoughtful Banners set. The finished watercolour piece was adhered direct to a mat of Wisteria Wonder card and then one of Tranquil Tide before popping up on the card front with dimensionals.
On the Whisper White insert the same leaves and flowers from the front were stamped with Tranquil Tide and Berry Burst inks respectively. Another sentiment from Thoughtful Banners was added with more Berry Burst ink.
Thanks for stopping by.
