New colour combos – day 1 – Merry Merlot

August 11, 2018

Now that the new catalogue has been out for a while I thought I should spend a little more time showing you the new and returning colours. Over the next 16 days I’ll share projects that showcase one each of these colours and suggest a possible colour combination. Mostly I’ll show how they can be combined with colours you already have … but I may be tempted to combine with newer colours now and then, so please forgive me 😉

First up is Merry Merlot – definitely a beautiful dark wine colour though it can be toned down a little by stamping off first (as for the centre vase). This colour is one of my new favourites and will be featuring in several of the packs of DSP in our Autumn/Winter catalogue launching on 5 September!

Here it’s combined with our existing Smoky Slate and Crushed Curry.

The card base is an A6 portrait of Smoky Slate. A card front layer of Merry Merlot was run through the Big Shot with one of the Petal Pair embossing folders. It was adhered to the card front with the debossed side showing. Black Stazon was used to stamp outline vases, flowers and shelf from the Varied Vases set onto Whisper White card. Two of the vases and the shelf were overstamped with Smoky Slate ink. Using Merry Merlot ink, the outer fill-in flowers and a birthday sentiment were stamped direct and then the centre fill-in vase was stamped with the same ink but stamping off first to get the paler shade. Crushed Curry ink was used to stamp the fill-in flowers of the orchid for a splash of bright. The stamped piece was matted onto Merry Merlot then Smoky Slate card and popped up on the card front with dimensionals.

On the Whisper White insert, another sentiment and an outline flower were stamped with Merry Merlot at full strength and then the fill-in flowers were stamped off with Merry Merlot once before stamping over the outline.

I’ll have another new colour to showcase for you tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by.

Sara xx
