Tutorial for poinsettia sister-in-law card

December 14, 2020

Today’s tutorial is for a personalised, poinsettia sister-in-law Christmas card.

Each week over on my Facebook page (please pop over and Like or Follow) I choose a product pick of the week to feature. I got caught out last week! My pick was in the sale and sold out super fast. I’m sure that some of the papers I’m using this week and possibly a few of the embellishments, may sell out too. My actual pick this week though, is unlikely to go on back order (and it won’t sell out) – it’s the Family Party stamp set. I’ll have a selection of tutorials for you throughout the week that uses it.

In the tutorial below, I take you step by step through creating the poinsettia sister-in-law card. I also have a supply list for purchasing anything you don’t already own.

The Family Party stamp set lets you personalise any card, whether it’s for Christmas, birthday or some other special occasion. The stamps cover a wide variety of relatives (as well as having numbers to further personalise an occasion). Although the fonts may not match, by using the same colour ink, it pulls the sentiments together.

Colour Combo

Colour combo is Old Olive, Very Vanilla and Metallic Gold.

The colour combo is Old Olive, Very Vanilla and a splash of Metallic Gold.

Start with an A6 portrait card of Old Olive. Cut a card front layer of Very Vanilla. Using Old Olive ink, stamp a sentiment from Poinsettia Petals onto the top right corner of the layer. Add the personalisation below the sentiment using the same Old Olive ink and the appropriate relative from the Family Party set. (Tip – stamping first allows you to turn the layer upside down or flip it over if you make a mistake with the stamping). Adhere a panel of Poinsettia Place DSP (sized to allow the sentiment to be seen), below the stamping and cover the join with Old Olive ribbon. Adhere the layer direct to the card front.

Die cut and emboss three sizes of poinsettia from Very Vanilla card, using the Poinsettia dies. Curl the petals over a bone folder and adhere the layers together directly. Apply a small piece of Adhesive Sheet behind a small scrap of Gold Foil. Die cut out the flower centre with holes, peel off the backing and stick to the centre of the assembled flower. Adhere the poinsettia direct to the card front.

On the Very Vanilla insert, using Old Olive ink, stamp a sentiment from the Tag Buffet set. Add a strip of the same Poinsettia Place DSP used on the front, down the right side.

The great news is that the Poinsettia Petals stamp set and dies will continue to be available next year (though you need to order before 4 January 2021 to get the bundle discount). For more ideas using this bundle, check out my class here

Thanks for stopping by.
