Today’s tutorial is for a double oval birthday card. This card also gives you a sneak peek of the Hand-Penned DSP together with our new In Color, Pale Papaya.
Each week over on my Facebook page (please pop over and Like or Follow) I choose a product pick of the week to feature. This week, it’s the Double Oval punch. I’ll have a selection of tutorials for you throughout the week that use this punch.
In the tutorial below, I take you step by step through creating the double oval birthday card. I also have a supply list for purchasing anything you don’t already own. You won’t be able to order the Hand-Penned DSP or Pale Papaya items until 4 May but why not start a shopping list now, ready.
The Hand-Penned DSP is a beautiful set of papers with multi-coloured watercolour-style florals on one side and monochromatic pastels on the other. I bought the DSP first and then that sold me on getting the stamps and dies that are also part of the suite. This card uses just one pattern from the pack.
Today I’m combining the Double Oval punch with the Oval Occasions stamp set. You can buy these together as a bundle, saving 10% until 30 June 2021 (or while stocks last as it gets closer to that date). The punch will carry forward to the new catty but the stamp set won’t so if you like the stamps then it’s worth getting them soon!
Apologies for the lighting in some of the photos. There was a little shadow on the card and the lighter half makes the Pale Papaya look a little more yellow than it is.
Colour Combo
The colour combo mixes Pale Papaya, Cinnamon Cider and Mint Macaron.
Double oval hand-penned birthday card
Start with an A6 portrait card of Pale Papaya. Add card front layers of Cinnamon Cider and Hand-Penned DSP. Using Cinnamon Cider ink, mask and stamp the “time to celebrate” sentiment from the Oval Occasions set, onto two separate skinny strips of Pale Papaya. (I have a video here showing simple masking). Stamp another sentiment from the set onto another skinny strip with the same ink. Snip one end of each sentiment strip on a diagonal and then pop them up on the card front with mini dimensionals.
Using Stazon Black ink, stamp the bunnies from the Oval Occasions set onto a scrap of Basic White. Colour with Stampin’ Write Markers. Punch out with the smooth oval of the Double Oval punch (this will trim away a little of the image). Punch the scalloped oval from Cinnamon Cider card. Adhere the ovals together direct and pop them up on the card front with dimensionals.
Double oval hand-penned birthday card insert
On the Basic White insert, stamp the birthday sentiment from the Oval Occasions set using Cinnamon Cider ink. Using Black Stazon ink, stamp the small flower spray in opposite corners and colour in with markers.
Thanks for stopping by.
