Today’s tutorial is for a Velvet Summer birthday card. It combines the Summer Shadows die set (free with a £90 purchase during Sale-a-bration), with the Red Velvet Specialty Paper.

Each week over on my Facebook page (please pop over and Like or Follow) I choose a product pick of the week to feature. This week, it’s the Summer Shadows dies. I’ll have a selection of tutorials for you throughout the week that share different ideas for using the dies on your projects.

In the tutorial below, I take you step by step through creating the Velvet Summer birthday card. I also have a supply list for purchasing anything anything you don’t already own (the order code for the Summer Shadows dies is 156618).

Colour Combo

The colour combo mixes Real Red, Pear Pizzazz and Basic White.

Velvet Summer birthday card

Start with an A6 portrait card of Pear Pizzazz. Cut a card front layer (3-7/8″ x 5-1/2″) of Painted Christmas DSP and adhere direct to the card front. Cut a (2-3/4″ x 3″) panel of Red Velvet. Using Real Red ink, stamp the smaller floral spray from the Shaded Summer stamp set onto a large scrap of Basic White card. Die cut out with the matching die from Summer Shadows die set. Adhere the direct to the Red Velvet panel and pop up on the card front with dimensionals. Add a bow of Real Red Sheer Ribbon to the floral spray with a Mini Glue Dot (watch this video to learn how to make a fork bow).

Using Real Red ink, stamp the birthday sentiment from the Shaded Summer stamp set onto a 2-1/2″ x 1-1/4″ panel of Basic White card. Adhere direct to a (2-3/4″ x 1-1/2″) panel of Red Velvet and pop up on the card front with dimensionals. Die cut the smallest flower from the Summer Shadows set from Red Velvet and pop up on the sentiment panel with mini dimensionals.

Velvet Summer birthday card insert

On the Basic White insert, stamp a sentiment from the In Your Words set using the Real Red ink. Using the same ink, stamp the small spray from the Shaded Summer stamp set along the base, stamping alternate sprays without reinking, for a paler shade.
