Today’s tutorial is for a gatefold Summer birthday card. This was my birthday card to my Mum last weekend. As a special card for a special person I am using more supplies than usual. It’s also a larger card than normal – A5 instead of A6.
I used the Summer Shadows die set (free with a £90 purchase during Sale-a-bration) to create the two-tone flowers and leaves.
In the tutorial below, I take you step by step through creating the gatefold Summer birthday card. I also have a supply list for purchasing anything you don’t already own (the order code for the Summer Shadows dies is 156618).
Colour Combo
The colour combo mixes Magenta Madness, Pale Papaya and Pumpkin Pie.
Gatefold Summer birthday card
Start with an A5 gatefold card base of Magenta Madness and mat the two front panels with Expressions in Ink Specialty DSP. Using Stitched Rectangle dies, cut three smaller rectangles from Basic White and three larger from Magenta Madness card. Using Magenta Madness ink, mask and stamp the sentiment from Happiest of Birthdays onto two of the White labels, lining them up with the right and left edges respectively. Die cut the MUM sentiment from Magenta Madness card using the Playful Alphabet dies and adhere this to the right edge of the third White label. Mat all the White labels onto the Magenta ones. Pop these up on dimensionals on the gatefold card front so that they interfold. (Take care to only put dimensionals halfway across the back of each).
Using the Summer Shadows dies, die cut two large and one smaller solid flower from Pale Papaya card and matching outline flowers from Pumpkin Pie card. Adhere them together. Die cut three solid leaf trios from Pear Pizzazz card and three outline ones from Old Olive card. Adhere together. Pop the flowers and leaves up on dimensionals at the ends of the sentiments.
Here’s the quick tip video explaining how to layer the die cuts to get the two tone effect. Please subscribe to my Youtube channel for future quick tips and quick cards.
Gatefold Summer birthday card insert
On the Basic White insert, stamp sentiments from the Party Puffins set using Magenta Madness ink. Stamp a sentiment from the Sweet Little Stockings set in between the other sentiments with Old Olive ink. Using Memento Black ink, stamp the gift and the dog’s head in the bottom right corner. (The dog represents our own dog, Bilbo). Colour with Stampin’ Blends.
Thanks for stopping by.
