Tutorial for peaceful swirls birthday card

October 9, 2021

Today’s tutorial is for a peaceful swirls birthday card. This one was a commission for a customer and is a large A5 card rather than the standard A6.

As it’s a masculine card I’ve kept the colour palette simple and a little on the cool side. I have used a lot more supplies than usual, as it’s nice to go a little wild and mix and match for these larger cards.

In the tutorial below, I take you step by step through creating the peaceful swirls birthday card. I also have a supply list for purchasing anything you don’t already own.

Colour Combo

The colour combo mixes Metallic Silver, Soft Succulent and Evening Evergreen.

Start with an A5 portrait card of Soft Succulent. Mat with a card front layer of Evening Evergreen and then one of Peaceful Place DSP. Using Layering Circle dies, die cut a small circle from Basic White card and a larger one from Soft Succulent Vellum (part of the 2021–2023 In Color Shimmer Vellum pack). Using Soft Succulent ink, stamp a sentiment from the Hey Birthday Chick set onto the Basic White circle. Adhere it to the vellum circle and then pop both up on dimensionals on the card front (hiding the dimensionals behind the sentiment). Adhere a die cut wreath (using the Seasonal Swirls dies) of Evening Evergreen, over the circles.

Using Ornate Layers dies, die cut a fancy rectangle from Soft Succulent Vellum. Cut a panel of Basic White to fit within the rectangle. Using Soft Succulent ink, stamp a sentiment from the Artistically Inked set onto the Basic White panel. (The “son” is from a retired set that I keep handy for this type of card). Adhere the stamped panel to the vellum rectangle and then pop both up on dimensionals on the card front (again, hiding the dimensionals behind the sentiment). Using the Giving Gifts dies, die cut a variety of leaves from a combination of Silver Foil, Soft Succulent and Evening Evergreen card and pop these up over the card front with slivers of dimensional.

Those tiny leaves come in handy elsewhere too. Here’s a quick tip video for hiding mistakes with the leaves, along with a few alternative options. Please subscribe to my Youtube channel for future quick tips and quick cards.

On the Basic White insert, using Soft Succulent ink, stamp another sentiment from the Artistically Inked set. Add a border of little leaves along the base using the same ink and the Sparkle of the Season stamp set.

Thanks for stopping by.
