Today’s tutorial is for a quick Hippo colouring card. This is quite different from my usual style – for a good reason. The card is designed as a kids card and the main image is simply stamped in black on white so that they can colour it in themselves.

In the tutorial below, I take you step by step through creating the quick Hippo colouring card. I also have a supply list for purchasing anything you don’t already own (the order code for the Hippest Hippos stamp set is 159921).

Colour Combo

This colour combo mixes Blushing Bride, Merry Merlot and Basic White.

Quick Hippo colouring card

Start with an A6 portrait card of Merry Merlot. Cut a card front layer of Blushing Bride. Using either Blushing Bride or Versamark ink (see video below), stamp the plain hippo and the flower holding hippo from the Hippest Hippos set down the left side of the card front layer. Stamp a sentiment from the set, top and bottom right with the same ink. Using Black Stazon ink, stamp the dancing hippo onto a 2″ x 3-3/4″ panel of Basic White card. Stamp another sentiment from the set below the image. Adhere the stamped panel direct to the card front layer. This allows the recipient to colour the image in themselves and keeping the layers flat gives them a better colouring experience. Adhere the layers direct to the card front.

Quick Hippo colouring card insert

On the Basic White insert, using Black Stazon ink, stamp another sentiment from the Hippest Hippos set. Add the dancing hippo again in the lower right corner with Blushing Bride ink.
