Today’s tutorial is for a black seashell birthday card. Every so often I like to turn designs on their head and buck the trend. The expected colours for seashells are generally pale colours, perhaps pinks or purple, so it’s fun to turn the idea on its head and try a dark colour. The only problem with that, is that it doesn’t photograph so well but please check out the video, which will give you a much better view of the texture of this card.
In the tutorial below, I take you step by step through creating the black seashell birthday card. I also have a supply list for purchasing anything you don’t already own.
Colour Combo
The colour combo mixes Basic Black, Basic White and Metallic Silver.
Black seashell birthday card
Start with an A6 portrait card of Basic Black. Mist a card front layer of Basic Black card with water (see the video below for why this is a good idea) and then run it through the Seashells 3D embossing folder. Allow to dry. Using Memento Black ink, stamp the birthday sentiment from the Peaceful Moments set onto a scrap of Basic White card. Punch out with the Label Me Fancy punch. Use the same punch to add slots to the narrow ends of the label. Thread 1-1/2″ Metallic Mesh Ribbon through the label and wrap around the embossed layer adhering it in place and using dimensionals just behind the label. Adhere the labelled layer direct to the card front
Here’s a “quick tip video” showing why it’s worth misting the card layer. Please subscribe to my Youtube channel to make sure you see all future quick tips.
Black seashell birthday card insert
On the inside of the card, stamp another sentiment from the Peaceful Moments stamp set with Memento Black ink. Position the insert so that just the right edge is sandwiched in the Seashells 3D embossing folder, run this through the machine sideways on.
