Today’s tutorial is for a cutaway symbols of fortune card. This is an easy fun fold card. The hardest part is keeping all the edges straight. I recommend using Multipurpose Liquid Glue so that you have a little “slide time” to slide the paper or card into the right alignment.
In the tutorial below, I take you step by step through creating the cutaway symbols card. I also have a supply list for purchasing anything anything you don’t already own.
Colour Combo
The colour combo mixes Smoky Slate, Metallic Gold and Mother of Pearl.
Cutaway symbols of fortune card
Start with an A6 portrait card of Smoky Slate. Cut away 1-1/2″ from the front right edge. Adhere a 2″ strip of Symbols of Fortune Specialty DSP to the left front edge. Cut a 1/8″ strip of Gold Foil and adhere direct to the right front edge. Add a strip of 3/8″ Mother of Pearl Specialty Paper right up to the edge of the Gold Foil (it can slightly overlap the DSP layer if needed.
Die cut out a swirled circle of Gold Foil using the Beautiful Shapes dies. Cut a smaller circle from Basic White card with the same die set. Using Basic Gray ink, stamp a sentiment from the Flowering Tulips set onto the plain circle. Pop it up on the gold circle with dimensionals and then add both circles to the edge of the card front with more dimensionals. Die cut three tiny dragonflies from Mother of Pearl Specialty Paper with the Good Fortune dies. Shape the wings and adhere two of the dragonflies to the card front (retaining one for the insert).

Cutaway symbols of fortune card insert
Adhere a 1-3/4″ strip of Symbols of Fortune Specialty DSP to the right edge of the inside back of the card . Cut a 2-1/4″ strip of Basic White card. Using Basic Gray ink, stamp the small bamboo from the Crane of Fortune stamp set in the lower left corner. Stamp again at the side without reinking. Adhere the strip right up to the edge of the DSP. Finish by adhering the remaining dragonfly direct to the DSP strip.
