Today’s tutorial is for a hand-penned foil birthday card. This time we’re heading away from the In Colors and going a little retro with some pinks.

The DSP used on the card is the Hand Penned DSP which is in the Hand-Penned Craft Class Kit. Please note that registration for this class closes tomorrow.

In the tutorial below, I take you step by step through creating the hand-penned foil birthday card. I also have a supply list for purchasing anything you don’t already own.

Although the Hand-Penned Petals stamp set comes with some sentiments (eg. “thanks”), it doesn’t contain birthday sentiments and so we’ve “borrowed” sentiments from the Art Gallery set. Any set with a small font birthday sentiment would work.

Colour Combo

The colour combo mixes Blushing Bride, Merry Merlot and Rococo Rose. Rococo Rose has now retired but you will still find it in some of our January-June catalogue products (such as the Love You Always Foil Sheets used here) as well as the Hydrangea Hill Mercury Glass Designer Acetate which has carried forward to the main catalogue. The Merry Merlot and Blushing Bride colours both work well with the rose.

Hand-penned foil birthday card

Start with an A6 portrait card of Merry Merlot. Mat a card front layer of Hand-Penned DSP onto a card front layer of Love You Always Foil Sheet (retiring soon). Wrap this with Blushing Bride Metallic Ribbon (also retiring soon) before adhering direct to the card front. Add a bow of the same ribbon to the centre of the wrapped portion with Mini Glue Dots. On a large panel of Basic White, stamp the large flower spray from the Hand-Penned Petals set with the Merry Merlot ink. Inking selectively (or masking, or snipping your sentiment apart), add the sentiment from the Art Gallery set using the same ink. Mat onto Love You Always Foil Sheet. Pop up on the card front with dimensionals.

On the inside of the card, stamp another sentiment from the Art Gallery set and a partial flower from the Hand-penned Petals set using Merry Merlot ink.
