Tutorial for stained glass dragonfly card

February 4, 2021

My tutorial for today is a for a stained glass dragonfly card. This technique uses colouring on the reverse of vellum (or you can use window sheet for a totally transparent look) to create the “stained glass” effect.

In the tutorial below, I take you step by step through creating the stained glass dragonfly card. I also have a supply list for purchasing anything you don’t already own.

Remember – the Dragonfly Garden stamp set and the Dragonflies punch can be bought together as a bundle saving 10%.

The sentiment for both the inside and outside of the card use one of our Sale-a-bration freebies – the Approaching Perfection stamp set. Buy the Dragonfly Garden bundle, the Dandy Garden DSP and the ribbon and you have enough for the free stamp set!

Start with an A6 portrait card of Smoky Slate. Mat Dandy Garden DSP onto a card front layer of Pool Party. Add a strip of more Pool Party card across the centre and wrap Pool Party Sheer Ribbon over it, securing on the reverse. Adhere the layers direct to the card front. Add a bow of the same ribbon to the centre.

Punch a large dragonfly from Basic White card with the Dragonflies punch and adhere it direct to the upper portion of the card front. (This will provide a frame for the coloured dragonfly to stand out). Using Black Stazon ink, stamp the dragonfly with a solid body from the Dragonfly Garden set onto Vellum card. Punch out with the Dragonflies punch. On the reverse (non-inked side of the vellum), colour with Blends. (Note – if you try to colour on the front, the Blends will move the Stazon around and muddy the image). Shape the wings over a bone folder and adhere the dragonfly along its body, to the white one on the card front.

Using Blackberry Bliss ink, stamp a sentiment from Approaching Perfection onto a scarp of Basic White card. Die cut out with the Ornate Frames dies. Die cut a fancy Ornate Frame from Blackberry Bliss card. Adhere the two together direct and pop up on the card front with dimensionals.

On the Basic White insert, using Blackeberry Bliss ink, stamp another sentiment from the Approaching Perfection set. Using Memento Black ink, stamp the same dragonfly from the Dragonfly Garden set. Colour the dragonfly again with Blends.
