Tutorial for birthday party card

May 7, 2021

Today’s tutorial is for a simple birthday party card. I’m still using the Puffin Party stamp set but this time there’s not a puffin in sight. So you can still use this set to make birthday cards for any friends who are scared of birds (I have a few).

This is still a simple card. We’re using Blends again (just two colours; Pale Papaya and Polished Pink) to colour the birthday cake and the candles. This is a great way to build up your colour collection.

In the tutorial below, I take you step by step through creating the simple birthday party card. I also have a supply list for purchasing anything you don’t already own.

I would probably have chosen to use Merry Merlot for the dark layer on this card, but I opted for Evening Evergreen instead, because this means you can buy just one pack of mixed card (In Colors 2021-23) instead of two or three. Our mixed card packs (in colour families) are a great way to try out our cardstock.

Colour Combo

The colour combo mixes Pale Papaya, Polished Pink and Evening Evergreen.

Simple birthday party card

Start with an A6 landscape card of Pale Papaya. Using Pale Papaya ink, alternately stamp the two sentiments from the Party Puffins set, down each side of a card front layer of Pale Papaya. (Tip – stamp them at a slight angle to spread them out and so that you don’t have to get them exactly straight). Adhere direct to a card front layer of Evening Evergreen and then direct to the card front. Using Memento Black ink, stamp the birthday cake from the Party Puffins set, onto a small rectangle of Basic White card. Colour with Pale Papaya and Polished Pink Stampin’ Blends. Mat onto Polished Pink card and then pop up on the card front with dimensionals.

Simple birthday party card insert

On the Basic White insert, stamp the same sentiments used on the front (stamping them straight this time) using Memento Black ink. Repeat stamp the trio of candles down the right side of the insert and colour in with the same Blends used on the cake.

Thanks for stopping by.
