Today’s tutorial is for an artistic gems birthday card. The Gilded Gems are being used here to decorate the centres of the flowers. Some centres are only a single gem but the large flower uses the gems to create a mini flower in the centre.

In the tutorial below, I take you step by step through creating the artistic gems birthday card. I also have a supply list for purchasing anything you don’t already own.

We’re also using the Expressions in Ink Specialty DSP together with Gilded Gems in this month’s Craft Class (to go). Registration for the class closes this Sunday.

The pattern of Expressions in Ink Specialty DSP used here is the same as used on the Pear Pizzazz expressions birthday card. Some parts of the pattern are coloured Pear Pizzazz (there’s a hint of it in the top left corner here) and others Just Jade. Careful cutting of your DSP lets you choose which colour you want to highlight.

The colour combo mixes Just Jade, Evening Evergreen and Metallic Gold.

Artistic gems birthday card

Start with an A6 portrait card of Evening Evergreen. Adhere a card front layer of Expressions in Ink Specialty DSP. Using the Artistic dies, die cut the bunch of outline flowers from Just Jade card and adhere to the negative space in the DSP. Using Just Jade ink, stamp a sentiment from the Artistically Inked stamp set onto a scrap of Basic White card. Mat onto Evening Evergreen card and pop up on the card front with dimensionals. Add a medium Gilded Gem in the centre of the large flower and surround it with the smallest gems. Add small Gilded Gems to the centres of the rolled flowers.

Artistic gems birthday card insert

On the Basic White insert, stamp another sentiment from the Artistically Inked stamp set using Just Jade ink. Use the same ink to add the trio of flowers from the same stamp set around the sentiment. Add a strip of Expressions in Ink Specialty DSP along the base.
