Tutorial for winding ribbon birthday card

March 10, 2023

Today’s tutorial is for a winding ribbon birthday card. The two ribbons in the Real Red & Burlap Ribbon Combo Pack work beautifully together but of course they can be used apart too. This time I’m taking one of the ribbons from the Combo Pack and mixing it with a completely different ribbon.

In the tutorial below, I take you step by step through creating the winding ribbon birthday card. I also have a supply list for purchasing anything you don’t already own.

Start with an A6 landscape card of Tahitian Tide. Cut a card front layer (5-1/4″ x 3-5/8″) of Basic White card. Using Tahitian Tide ink, stamp a sentiment from the Framed Florets set centrally onto the upper section of Basic White layer. Adhere direct to a (5-1/2″ x 3-7/8″) card front layer of Real Red card.

Wrap a piece of the Real Red Ribbon from the Real Red & Burlap Ribbon Combo Pack over the left side of the card front layers. Adhere a piece of the Tahitian Tide Metallic Woven Ribbon on the reverse. Thread through the wrapped Real Red Ribbon until you are happy with the spread of the winding. Adhere the other end of the Ribbon on the reverse of the layers. Secure the winds of the ribbon in place with Mini Glue Dots to keep the spread even. Adhere the layers direct to the card front.

Using Memento Black ink, stamp the duo of flowers from the Framed Florets set onto a scrap of Basic White card. Die cut out with the matching Framed Florets dies. Colour the floral image with Stampin’ Blends. Pop the floral duo up on the lower right of the card front with dimensionals. Finish with Glossy Dots Assortment.

On the Basic White insert, using Tahitian Tide ink, stamp the semicircular flower spray from the Framed Florets set at each side. Add a sentiment from the same set in the centre with the same ink.

I wouldn’t have thought of putting those two colours together; they work beautifully and I love the ribbon effect.

Thank you Lynn. I’ve used a red and pale blue combo before for Christmas cards that worked really well. It’s nice to pull it back out and apply it to more of a springtime card! Pool Party and Poppy Parade are another good combo.
