Tutorial for sequin zoo birthday card

June 14, 2023

Today’s tutorial is for a sequin zany zoo birthday card. Here the sequins fill a little negative space without distracting from the main image. I made this as a birthday card but this would be ideal as a good luck or congrats card for anyone taking a dancing exam!

This was one of the make and take projects at our Paper Dolls team meeting last night. Our team connect by Zoom meeting for us to work through the projects and have a natter as we go along. There is also a replay for those that can’t attend on the night, or simply want to follow along with the projects later. This month is a great time to join our team as you get extra in the starter kit during June. Please get in touch if you’d like to know more.

In the tutorial below, I take you step by step through creating the sequin zany zoo birthday card. I also have a supply list for purchasing anything you don’t already own.

Start with an A6 portrait card of Pumpkin Pie. Cut a window in the card front large enough for the dancer and curtains. Using the Zany Zoo dies, die cut curtains and a pelmet from Basic Black card and tie-backs from Pool Party card. Adhere the curtains direct to each side of the window on the card front. Pop the pelmet up on dimensionals across the top and adhere the tie-backs direct. Using Basic Black ink, stamp a sentiment from Sending Smiles onto a banner, die cut from Basic White card, with the Stylish Shapes dies. Pop this up on the card front below the window, with dimensionals. Add a trio of (copper) Neutrals Adhesive-Backed Sequins to the negative space above and below the sentiment.

On the Basic White insert, using Memento Black ink, stamp a sentiment from the Zany Zoo stamp set. Using the Zany Zoo dies, die cut the dancing leopard from Zoo Crew DSP. With the card closed, position the dancer through the window, popping it up on mini dimensionals.

Thanks for stopping by.
